Hisui-no-hebi-kai
The Jade Serpent, headed by Masayuki Nijo, and with Hitomi Sato as the Advisor of War, one of their greatest strengths in living memory has been their diplomacy, not that they lack in the ability to back it up with violence. They hold central-east Kugane.
Fukai-kawa-kai
The Deep River has a strong hand in business workings in the Ijin-accessible areas of Kugane. Headed by Kuchi Uesugi, a Hingan Roegadyn noted for blending thaumaturgy and fist-to-fist combat to deadly advantage in combat, they have recently formalized their alliance with Hisui-no-hebi-kai by betrothing Kuchi's son to Masayuki's youngest daughter. They hold much of western Kugane.
Kagayaku-taiyō-kai
The Shining Sun holds most of eastern Kugane, having ceded some territories to Hisui-no-hebi-kai in the three decades of their alliance and found no reason to regret it. Headed by the young and handsome Yasutake Ishimaki, they can often be run across at Hisui-no-hebi-kai headquarters, or at any number of gambling ventures.
Sen-mai-ha-kai
The Thousand Blades hold the northern/northwest portion of Kugane, farthest from where Ijin are. While they have been at odds with the other groups many times in history, and have held animosity with Hisui-no-hebi-kai for decades, in the four years since Gin Nitta stepped into the vacuum left by the death of her father that animosity has reached a brutal, bloody fever pitch and boiled into outright war against the other three.
Kurai-niwa-kai
Holding large swaths of territory in Bukyo, the Dark Garden is regarded among their peers as formidable and dangerous.
Hisui-no-hebi-kai
Established some four centuries before present day as a splinter from a now-obsolete clan, Hisui-no-hebi-kai swiftly established themselves as benevolently ruthless - while those who had left their previous clan were some of its most adept combatants, more than capable of rising to a fight, they also nigh on immediately began reaching out to the communities that they walked among, seeking out ways they could help the people - an attitude that, while not entirely uncommon to Hingashi's yakuza clans of the time, they took to new heights, thereby pushing their peers to do the same as time went by.This care for the people who made their lives around them would work strongly in their favour over the centuries to come, giving them a rise to power that posits the modern Serpent as a beast to be reckoned with - or a beast to find a home in the coils of.All Hisui-no-hebi-kai youth, no matter the rank of their parents within the organization, start out as soldiers; a measure Masayuki believes instills in them an understanding that from their oyabun to the newest of their numbers, every member of the clan is family, and is to be cared for and protected to the best of one's ability.

Once upon many years ago, a boy was born in Daitenz, to a lone mother who would eventually find her way into Hisui-no-hebi-kai when he was in his teens. A bookish young man, Masayuki nonetheless proved himself equally capable of violence when it was needed, and fairly adept at both determining when it was genuinely needed and when the situation could be diffused.These, combined with a ruthless financial acumen and a fierce loyalty to the familial structure he found with his fellow criminals, resulted in his steady and swift climb as he got older, until he stood at the right hand of his predecessor. And then, in his mid-thirties, an illness seized and stole his predecessor from the syndicate, and all eyes looked to him.In the thirty years since, Masayuki has brokered a strong alliance with Kagayaku-taiyō-kai, strengthened Hisui-no-hebi-kai’s ties in Eorzean territories, done everything in his power to try to mitigate the damages of their unending war with Sen-mai-ha-kai, and fathered four children of his own by his late wife, another casualty of said war, two of whom have chosen to largely lead civilian lives, and none of whom desire the leadership.Well and keenly aware that he is entering his elder years, Masayuki is beginning to look towards the future of Hisui-no-hebi-kai without him at the helm.

A child of Hisui-no-hebi-kai from birth, and from a family going back five generations within the clan, Hitomi was a name oft passed around their numbers as a girl who would go far.And go far she did. One of the most frightful people in Kugane to wield a katana, Hitomi Sato has built her reputation on that and a devastatingly strategic mind. Her ascent within the organization was only halted by no open seats in higher positions, leaving her to spent her twenties and early thirties as an assistant to the the previous junior Advisor of War, a fact that she accepted easily and simply used the time to continue ensuring that, when the time came, she would be the obvious choice to elevate.It would come in the most unexpected of ways. At thirty-four, she accompanied her direct superior and the Advisor of Coin on a business trip to Radz-at-Han, to renegotiate trade terms with Hannish criminal syndicate the Needles. Familiar with the organization's members and the region, she was deemed necessary, and had expected everything to go smoothly - instead, the Needles' headquarters were raided, virtually all of them, her direct superior, and the Advisor of Coin arrested. Smart enough to hide, she was left to have the son of the leaders thrust upon her, one six-year-old Vespasien Sunstroker, and to get them both out of Radz-at-Han safely on her own.Hitomi, never one to back down from a challenge, rose to it and returned to Hingashi with the young Miqo’te, pleading her case alongside the Oyabun in front of the Bugyo, gaining Vespasien his citizenship and giving him his Hingashi name to go alongside that his parents had given him - Suzumebachi Sato, another play on ‘wasp’. In the eighteen years since, while she has not always been a very indulgent mother, she has done the best by her son.In the wake of the arrests, while the Advisor of Coin was able to be retrieved on bail, her direct superior suffered a fatal infection in the Hannish prison, catapulting her into his position, and then, a few years later, the Advisor of War who she had grown up admiring chose to retire, leaving a vacancy at Masayuki's right hand.She was, of course, the obvious choice to fill it, and now, as Masayuki turns an eye towards his own retirement, she stands as the obvious choice to inherit the position of Oyabun.

A devote worshipper of Susanoo, Kuchi is regarded by both her peers among the yakuza and the average civilian of Kugane as a formidable opponent.

One of the youngest leaders of Kugane's yakuza, Yasutake took up the mantle from his uncle following the older man's death. Despite his youth, he has already garnered a reputation as a man who proceeds in all endeavours with cautious strategy.

The other youngest leader of Kugane's yakuza, Gin was thrust into leadership following the death of her father to fill the resulting power vacuum almost entirely because, as she tells it, a kami took her hand and gave her a blessing. In the four years since, Gin's Sen-mai-ha-kai, the Thousand Blades of Kugane, have waged an ever-escalating war on three other major groups of the city, stooping to new lows over time.Now the war is at a fever pitch, and Nitta Gin bathes in blood - but Sen-mai-ha-kai has begun to lose its battles.
